Partnerships

We are thrilled to have a partnership with the Toronto Biosphere Eco-City (TBEC) on a project related to Food Insecurity to Support the Well-Being of People and the Planet (https://toronto.bioecocity.org/project/fighting-food-waste-and-food-insecurity-to-support-the-well-being-of-people-and-the-planet/). The Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) Approach uses simple themes and tools to engage people and organizations to create a culture of sustainability in a city (https://toronto.bioecocity.org). Some of the highlights from the TBEC are described here:

Biosphere Eco-City is an urban area and surrounding countryside where cooperation ensures that everyone’s actions can contribute to sustainability. Toronto Biosphere Eco-City is a member of the national association Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada (BECC).

Join the movement towards a sustainable Toronto!

Whether you’re an individual passionate about making a difference, a community group looking to contribute, or a business aiming to lead in sustainability, there’s a place for you in the Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) initiative. Need for Sustainability:

We need sustainability to solve current problems and ensure a good future. Humans have lived sustainably for much of history. Recent changes in human ability to exploit the resources of the Earth without limits have created three critical problems:

  • Resources are being reduced faster than they can be renewed (some can’t be renewed).

  • Human exploitation is harming nature in significant ways.

  • People are suffering from the impacts of unsustainable growth and
    their impact on the Biosphere.

Biosphere

The Biosphere (literally “sphere of life”) is the collection of all life on Earth. It is also defined as the Earth’s outer shell of land, water, and air that sustains all life.
The Biosphere is known as a self-regulating mechanism that maintains conditions favorable for the survival of life. The Biosphere gets its vitality from the life within it. In return, it maintains stability for uncounted lifeforms. It is an extremely complex and robust system that has withstood extreme external pressures for millennia. Yet it is threatened by activity within it – human degradation of ecosystems. The Biosphere is our home. We must protect it.
